Support the American Discovery Trail

The ADT is a route which was mapped out in the late 1980's and early 1990's
by the American Hiking Society and Backpacker magazine.  It spans some 6,800
miles and crosses 15 states, being a route extending across the entire width
of the US from Delaware to California.  For more information about the ADT,
you can find it at http://www.discoverytrail.org/about/background.html#4

The relevance to our area is that the ADT comes out of Perry County, passes
through Fulda, through Santa Claus, Lincoln Park and National Memorial and
Gentryville.  Currently, there is legislation pending in the US Congress, HR
4671, to designate this route as a part of the National Trails system, which
would place it on par with such routes as the Appalachian Trail, Natchez
Trace, etc..

The Town of Santa Claus would like to enlist your support in lobbying Rep.
Hill and other members of Congress to support this legislation, which
previously has passed the U.S. Senate 3 times and become bogged down in
House committee, as we believe this designation could greatly benefit our
area.  To that end, I have attached a sample letter recommended by the ADT
Society, with some additions I made to reflect local information and which
includes Rep. Hill's address for you to consider sending to his office.
Obviously, any other efforts you can take to encourage passage of this
legislation -- such as having local groups which would be interesting in
having a greater and improved trail network for hiking, bicycling, running,
and other pursuits -- would also be appreciated.
