Andrew Fischer is a senior at Heritage Hills High School and the son of Dan and Mary Fischer of northern Spencer County.  He is the grandson of Karl and Marie Dilger.  Andrew attended Nancy Hanks Elementary School and Heritage Hills Middle and High Schools.  He plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington where he will study for a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in biology.  After attaining that BA or BS, he will apply to the Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington.  After four years in Optometry School Andrew hopes to be a Doctor of Optometry.Andrew is currently the V.P. of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the Student Council, V.P. of the Senior Class, a Pep Club Officer and a member of the Optimist Club.  He has been active in soccer and baseball while in school.    He also has a 3.9 GPA, is in the top 10% of his class, has been awarded Patriot of the Month each school year and has also achieved Summa Cum Laude Honor Roll each year.  Mr. Alcorn, principal at Heritage Hills High Schools believes ‘Andy is definitely a leader in our school.  He is a class act and I wish we had a hundred more of him’.  He values the mission trips he has taken to Omaha, Nebraska and Champaign, Illinois with his youth group from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dale.  “He is involved, he is fun to be around and he is in the moment.  He goes on our mission trips, not because it’s the cool thing to do, but because he gets something out of it.   He comes back into our community as a better person.  Andy is a really strong role-model for his age group.  Andy is an honest young man, is very respectful of his peers and his elders. He is involved with church activities and appreciates all the blessings he has. He has awesome parents and a very supportive family.” states Mary Gogel, Andy’s Faith Formation teacher (since 9th grade) and the coordinator of the mission trips.Andrew writes, “Work ethic is a strong factor in being successful.   Donald Kendall, co-founder of PepsiCo, said, “The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.”  I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Kendall’s statement.”  Congratulations Andrew Fischer on being the 2011 Spencer County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipient.
