In 2006, Rex read about a Pension Protection Act that had just been developed in an article about smart giving in the newspaper as well as in the Indiana State Retirement News. Because of his interest in charitable giving and his desire to give as much as possible without paying undue taxes, Rex contacted the Spencer County Community Foundation to get more information and since has contributed significantly to the foundation and Spencer County Hospice.
Rex may also be recognized as an avid volunteer for the Spencer County Hospice's Rockport office. Spencer County Hospice and its mission to better serve terminally ill patients in Spencer County, is dear to Rex's heart, as his own wife's battle with terminal cancer was one of the most trying situations of his life. Rex said, "I know from my own experience when my wife was so terribly ill...it just turned me upside down and inside out. I don't think there is anyone who works in Hospice who has not had some personal experience with terminal illness. I wanted to help other people who are going through what we did."
